Orientation Programme on Project Paper for TY B.Com Students

The Project Cell of VVM’s Shree Damodar College of Commerce & Economics, Margao, organised an Orientation Programme on Project Paper for TY B.Com students across four divisions. The sessions were conducted class-wise from 23rd to 30th June 2026 during regular class hours.

Objectives

  • To orient TY B.Com students on the project paper guidelines and regulations prescribed by Goa University.
  • To familiarise students with the various stages of project work, including topic selection, research design, data collection, analysis, report writing, and presentation.
  • To create awareness about ethical research practices, plagiarism prevention, and proper referencing techniques.
  • To guide students in planning and executing their project work systematically within the stipulated timeline.
  • To develop students’ research, analytical, critical thinking, and report-writing skills through project-based learning.
  • To encourage students to undertake meaningful and practical research on contemporary issues relevant to commerce and management.
  • To clarify the project evaluation process, assessment criteria, and the roles and responsibilities of students and project guides.

The orientation programme aimed to familiarise students with the project paper requirements prescribed by Goa University and provide them with a clear understanding of the project work process. The sessions were conducted by Sub Lt. Pretty L. Pereira, Project Cell Coordinator, and Lt. Sandesh Gaonkar, Assistant Professor.

During the programme, students were introduced to the project guidelines and manual, including the process of selecting an appropriate research topic, preparing a project proposal, conducting a literature review, designing research methodology, collecting, and analysing data, and preparing the final project report. The Faculty members also explained the importance of academic integrity, ethical research practices, plagiarism prevention, and adherence to the prescribed formatting and submission guidelines.

Special emphasis was placed on effective time management, regular interaction with project guides, maintaining proper documentation, and following the project timeline. The students were encouraged to undertake research on relevant and contemporary business issues that would enhance their analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.

The sessions concluded with an interactive discussion, during which students actively participated and clarified their queries regarding project selection, report writing, data collection methods, referencing, and evaluation procedures. The programme successfully prepared students to undertake their project work with confidence and a systematic approach.

  • To enable students to understand the various stages involved in project work.
  • To develop awareness regarding research methodology, report writing, and ethical research practices.
  • To encourage students to select relevant research topics and undertake systematic investigation.
  • To prepare students for timely completion and successful submission of their project reports.

Course Outcome (CO) The orientation programme enhanced students’ understanding of research methodology, project planning, data collection, report writing, and academic ethics. It equipped them with the necessary knowledge and confidence to undertake their TY B.Com project work effectively, thereby contributing to the attainment of programme-specific learning outcomes related to research, analytical skills, and independent learning.
