The 5 Karnataka Naval Unit, Udupi, organised the Pre Nau Sainik Camp (Pre NSC) from 10th to 19th June 2026 at MIT University, Udupi, Karnataka. The camp was conducted for cadets of the Karnataka and Goa Directorate with the primary objective of providing cadets with firsthand exposure to naval life, enhancing their leadership qualities, discipline, and naval skills in preparation for the Nau Sainik Camp (NSC).
Objectives of the camp
- To provide cadets with firsthand exposure to naval life and naval training.
- To develop leadership qualities, discipline, teamwork, and self-confidence among cadets.
- To impart practical knowledge and skills in semaphore, boat rigging, boat pulling, and maritime communication.
- To enhance physical fitness, endurance, and awareness of health and hygiene.
- To prepare cadets for higher-level NCC competitions and the Nau Sainik Camp selection process
The ten-day camp offered a comprehensive training programme encompassing various naval activities and practical exercises. Cadets underwent intensive training in Semaphore, learning the flag signaling system used for maritime communication; Boat Rigging, which focused on the preparation and handling of boats; Boat Pulling, emphasizing teamwork, coordination, and physical endurance; and Health and Hygiene, promoting awareness of personal fitness and sanitation practices essential for naval personnel.
The camp followed a disciplined daily schedule, commencing at 6:00 a.m. with physical exercise and the ceremonial raising of colours and concluding at 10:30 p.m. The structured routine helped instill punctuality, discipline, teamwork, and leadership among the cadets. At the conclusion of the camp, participants appeared for theory and practical examinations to evaluate their knowledge and proficiency in the various training modules.
The final day featured a vibrant cultural programme in which cadets showcased their talents through various performances, fostering camaraderie, confidence, and team spirit. As part of the camp itinerary, the cadets also visited the Shree Krishna Temple, Udupi, providing them with an opportunity to experience the rich cultural and spiritual heritage of the region.
From our institution, PO Cadet Ragav Shetkar, LC Praveen Kumar, LC Diksha Chadda, and Cadet Vishaka Singh represented the NCC Naval Wing and actively participated in all camp activities. PO Cadet Ragav Shetkar, LC Praveen Kumar’s commendable performance resulted in their selection for the next phase of the Nau Sainik Camp, bringing recognition to the institution.
