The Karnataka and Goa Directorate organised a Special Yachting Camp conducted by 1 Goa Naval Unit NCC at the Indian Naval Watermanship Training Centre from 11 May to 18 May 2026.
Objectives of the Camp
- To provide cadets with practical exposure to watermanship and naval training.
- To develop leadership, discipline, teamwork, and confidence among cadets.
- To introduce cadets to various water sports activities such as sailing and windsurfing.
- To enhance awareness about the functioning and traditions of the Indian Navy.
A total of 20 cadets from different NCC Directorates participated in the camp, including cadets from Delhi, J&K and Ladakh Tamil Nadu, Kerala & Lakshadweep, and Goa Karnataka Directorate. The camp consisted of 10 Senior Division (SD) and 10 Senior Wing (SW) cadets. The cadets were accommodated at INS Gomantak. Four cadets represented Goa Directorate (2 SD and 2 SW), out of which Cadet Varun Kumar represented our institution.
At the beginning of the camp, cadets were briefed about various water sports activities followed by daily 2-hour theory classes. All cadets were divided into two groups and were trained for sailing, windsurfing and kite flying.
The camp provided extensive practical exposure and hands-on training in these activities under the guidance of trained naval instructors.
During the camp, cadets also visited INS Hansa, the Indian Navy’s premier and largest naval airbase. Cadets were shown the Air Traffic Control (ATC) Room, various helicopters, and fighter aircraft. They also had the opportunity to witness a MiG-29K fighter jet take-off from the runway.
Later, cadets visited the Naval Aviation Museum, where they observed various decommissioned fighter jets, aircraft, and helicopters used by the Indian Navy over the years. Cadets were taken to tourist attractions in Vasco da Gama, including:
- Japanese Garden
- Baina Beach
- Birla Temple
On the final day, cadets received their camp kitting, followed by the Closing Ceremony. All participating cadets were awarded participation certificates and mementos by Camp Commander Captain Sumeet Sinha.
Activity Outcome:-
The Special Yachting Camp proved to be highly beneficial and enriching for all participating cadets. The camp enhanced the cadets’ knowledge and practical skills in sailing and windsurfing while improving their physical fitness, confidence, discipline, and team spirit. Cadets gained valuable exposure to naval operations, aviation systems, and life in the Indian Navy. The interaction with cadets from different directorates also promoted unity, cultural exchange, and camaraderie. Overall, the camp was a memorable learning experience that inspired cadets towards leadership, adventure activities, and service to the nation.
