The Combined Annual Training Camp (CATC) was organised by 8 KAR Naval Unit NCC at Government Polytechnic College (GPK), Karwar, from 11th May to 20th May 2026. The camp was conducted with the objective of developing discipline, leadership qualities, teamwork, physical fitness, communication skills, and personality development among cadets. It also aimed to provide practical exposure to naval and military-oriented activities and to create awareness about career opportunities in the Indian Defence Forces.
At the beginning of the camp, Camp Commander Sushant Vats welcomed all the cadets and briefed them about camp life, discipline, rules, and general instructions. The camp schedule included morning physical training, jogging sessions, drill practice, lectures, sports activities, and practical demonstrations designed to improve the overall personality and confidence of the cadets.
The camp started with morning PT and jogging sessions followed by activities conducted at a nearby beach. Tug of War competition was organised during which Cadet Sneden Willbur Souza secured 1st place representing Androdh Division. Lectures and practical sessions on Ship Modelling and Navigation were conducted by the PI Staff to provide cadets with knowledge about naval operations and technical skills. In the evenings, cadets enthusiastically participated in Volleyball tournament matches and other sports activities. Cadets attended a lecture on Soft Skills which emphasized the importance of communication skills, confidence building, and personality development. This session helped cadets understand the value of effective communication and discipline in daily life. Later, drill practice sessions were conducted under the supervision of senior cadets and instructors to improve coordination, alertness, and teamwork among participants.
A lecture on Medical Awareness and Fire Fighting Awareness was also conducted. Experts delivered informative sessions on emergency response techniques, first aid, and fire safety measures. These sessions helped cadets gain practical knowledge about handling emergencies and maintaining safety.
Cadets also got an opportunity to visit INS Aditya. During the visit, naval officials explained the ship’s structure, operational systems, and the important role played by the Indian Navy in national security. Cadets were also guided regarding opportunities in the Indian Defence Forces, educational qualifications required, and career pathways available for young aspirants. Cadets who remained at the camp attended lectures on Naval Orientation and Ship Modelling.
Another important activity conducted during the camp was firing practice using the 22 rifle. SD and SW cadets were provided with 10 rounds each, while JD and JW cadets were given 5 rounds each. The firing practice enhanced the confidence, concentration, and discipline of the cadets. Later, a lecture on Nuclear Energy was delivered by NPCIL, followed by an interactive quiz session that increased awareness about nuclear energy and its applications.
The camp also included cultural and recreational activities. A Cultural Programme was organised in the evening where cadets showcased their talents through dance, music, and other performances. The programme encouraged unity, teamwork, and self-confidence among the cadets. Awards and medals were distributed to winners of various competitions and camp activities. During the programme, winners and runners-up of various sports and camp activities were awarded medals and certificates by Commanding Officer Sushant Vats in recognition of their achievements and active participation.
The camp concluded with a closing address by Commanding Officer Sushant Vats, who appreciated the discipline, dedication, and enthusiastic participation of all cadets. Final instructions and feedback were given by the camp authorities before departure. The cadets returned with memorable experiences, improved discipline, enhanced confidence, leadership qualities, and valuable learning gained throughout the training programme.

Outcome of the Camp
The Combined Annual Training Camp successfully achieved its objectives by improving discipline, leadership qualities, communication skills, and teamwork among the cadets. The various physical training sessions, drills, firing practice, and sports activities enhanced the physical fitness, confidence, coordination, and mental strength of the participants.
The practical exposure gained through ship visits, naval orientation sessions, and technical lectures increased the cadets’ knowledge about naval operations and career opportunities in the Indian Defence Forces. Lectures on medical awareness, fire safety, soft skills, and nuclear energy also helped cadets develop social awareness, safety consciousness, and communication skills.
Overall, the camp provided an enriching and memorable learning experience that motivated cadets towards self-discipline, patriotism, responsibility, and personality development.
