The Economics Club of the College organised Eco-week 5.0 from 8th to 13th February 2024, from 12:00 p.m. onwards, in the College Smart Classroom. During the week, one competition was held every day, in addition to stalls by students.

The One-Minute Elocution Competition marked the commencement of Eco Week 5.0, where students were tasked with selecting chits and delivering impromptu speeches based on the topic allotted by the chit, within a one-minute time frame. The event witnessed active participation with a total of 7 enthusiastic contestants.

Ms. Ruby Mahato clinched the coveted First Prize with her compelling presentation, showcasing both depth and clarity in her delivery. Following closely behind, Kewell V. Fernandes won the Second Prize, impressing the judges with his eloquent articulation. Ms. Arya Vijay Kamat claimed the Third Prize, demonstrating commendable skill and confidence in her speech.

A Quiz competition was held on 09th February 2024 in the smart classroom from 12:15 pm to 1:30 pm. The quiz covered a wide range of subjects, including current affairs, history, science, literature, Indian economy and more.

The following were the winners of the quiz competition:

1) Ms. Tanisha G. Naik and Ms. Ruby Mahato — Winners

2) Mr. Rahul P. Raikar and Ms. Shambhavi Dessai — Runners up

3) Mr. Ibrahim Pirjade and Mr. Sahil Karapurkar — 3rd Place

The “Wealth out of Waste” competition, themed “Regard before you Discard,” was held as part of EcoWeek. The competition witnessed enthusiastic participation from 15 groups (3 students per group), showcasing their skills and commitment to sustainable practices.

After a thorough evaluation of all entries, the judges announced the winners:

First Prize: Kewell.V.Fernandes, Mansoor Makandar, Prem Khajure

Second Prize: Kewal Patel, Koel Jana, Brionna Noronha

Third Prize: Jaidenn A Fernandes, Abigail Fernandes, Ashwin L. Colaco

On 12th Feb 2024, the Economics Club organised ‘Analyzers’ – a presentation competition. The participants were given 5 topics to choose from:

1.      Global Humanitarian Crisis

2.      Interim Budget 2024

3.      India and SDG Goals

4.      Viksit Bharat @ 2047

5.      Future of Humans and AI

Participants were required to prepare a presentation on any one of the five given topics, and present it to the judges and the audience.

The first place was bagged by Astha A. Kosaambe, second place by Kewell.V. Fernandes, and third place was won by Altaz Khan.

On the last day of Eco-week, i.e. on 13th Feb 2024, Eco-Flash, photography competition was held in the smart classroom. The participants had to submit one picture that depicts the primary, secondary or tertiary sector of the Goan economy, along with a brief description of how the photo relates to the theme.

In this competition, the first place was won by Mr. Kewell Fernandes, second place by Mr. Zenon Vaz and third place by Ms. Arya Kamat.

On all the days of Eco-week, students from FY B.Com and SY B.Com put up different stalls to sell different products made by them. These stalls witnessed good response from the college students as well as staff.

On the last day of the Ecoweek, Valedictory function for Eco-week 5.0 was held in the smart classroom. Vice Principal of the College, Dr Edwin Barreto and Head of the Department of Economics and Banking, Dr. Lira M. Gama awarded medals to all the prize winners. Mr. Kewell Fernandes was awarded Economist of the Year, for scoring most points in the competitions organised by the Economics club during the Academic Year. Convenor Mr. Shreyas Desai proposed the Vote of Thanks.
