The Career Training Internship & Placement Cell of VVM’s Shree Damodar College of Commerce & Economics, Margao, organised an interactive career guidance session titled Make Your Three Years Count: Building Skills, Exploring Opportunities, and Preparing for Success for the First Year B.Com students on 23rd June 2026 from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. in Hall 2.
The session aimed to help students understand the importance of making informed academic and career choices from the beginning of their undergraduate journey. The resource person Dr. Abhishek Karmali from Career Crafters guided students on the diverse career opportunities available after B.Com, including professional courses such as CA, CMA, CS, CFA, MBA, M.Com, and emerging career options in banking, finance, taxation, auditing, business analytics, digital marketing, human resource management, entrepreneurship, and the public sector. Students were encouraged to identify their interests and strengths while planning their career paths. A major focus of the session was on the importance of skill development alongside academic learning. Students were advised to enhance their communication, analytical, problem-solving, leadership, teamwork, and digital skills. The speaker also highlighted the need to gain proficiency in MS Excel, Tally, Power BI, financial tools, data analysis, and AI-enabled technologies, which are increasingly valued by employers.
The resource person encouraged students to make productive use of their three years in college by pursuing value-added certification courses, internships, online learning, industry interactions, workshops, and extracurricular activities. Emphasis was laid on building a strong resume, networking with professionals, improving English language proficiency, and staying updated with industry trends to enhance employability. The session was highly informative and motivating, inspiring students to plan their academic journey strategically and equip themselves with the knowledge, skills, and confidence required for a successful career. The session was attended by 73 FYB.Com students, teacher in charge for the session was Dr. Maithili Naik, Vice – Principal Excellence, and Dr. Preksha Chopdekar, CTIP Convenor.
Expected Outcome of the Activity: The session is expected to empower students to make informed career decisions, develop industry-relevant skills, and proactively prepare for successful professional careers.
