The Department of Commerce & Management, in association with the Student Welfare Cell, conducted a Bridge Course in Accounting for First Year B.Com students from non-commerce backgrounds from 23rd July to 31st July 2026 in Classroom S205, Central Block. The sessions were conducted by Ms. Kalpana Parab and Ms. Yeshda Prabhu with the objective of providing students with a strong foundation in accounting concepts and facilitating a smooth transition into the B.Com. program.
The course covered fundamental topics including introduction to the concepts of Business, Accounting, Basic Accounting Terminology, Business Transactions, Types of Accounts, Golden Rules of Accounting, the Accounting Cycle, Accounting Equation, Journal Entries, and Types of Financial Statements.
To make learning engaging and interactive, various classroom activities such as Unscramble the Accounting Words and an Accounting Crossword Puzzle were conducted alongside application-based discussions and practical illustrations.
To assess students’ understanding, a pre-test was conducted before the commencement of the course, followed by a post-test at its conclusion to evaluate the learning outcomes. A comparison of the pre-test and post-test results indicated a noticeable improvement in students’ conceptual understanding and confidence in applying basic accounting principles.
Overall, the Bridge Course successfully achieved its objective of preparing students for the accounting curriculum through an interactive and learner-centric approach. A total of 5 students attended the Bridge Course.

· Students will be able to classify business transactions and apply fundamental accounting principles.
· Students will gain confidence in preparing simple journal entries.
· Students will be better equipped to pursue the B.Com. curriculum with improved conceptual understanding.
