SSC/N9014: (Unit-I) Sustainable Practices

As a part of the skill component of JSD Module Qualification Pack , the Department of Computer Science organized a training session for B.Voc. students on Sustainable Practices to be followed at the workplace. The Resource Person for the session was Mr. Clinton Vaz, Waste Management Specialist, vRecycle, Sao Jose De Areal, Margao-Goa.

The session commenced at 10.40 am with the introduction of guest by Ms. Shaina Kamat, from FY B.Voc.(ST). Mr. Clinton runs a waste management system which has around 40 employees. He introduced the session with the need for waste management and the best practices to be followed in order to reduce waste. He also highlighted the various sources of waste, mainly the packaging of commodities that we buy.

Mr. Clinton emphasized the 3 R’s of waste minimization viz. Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. After guiding the students to reduce and reuse the packaging materials, he explained the process of recycling. He introduced various logos that are printed on any product packaging and encouraged everyone to use products that have the Recycle logo.

In the second part of the session Mr. Clinton explained the process that they follow to recycle the products at their waste management unit. He showed the sample of compost that they prepared from wet waste collected from different cities in Margao. He also showed other recycled products like cardboard made out of tetra-packs, ropes made from other waste and so on.

The session concluded at 1.00 pm. 59 students attended this training session. The teacher in charge for the session was Ms. Sneha Prabhudessai, NOS Coordinator, Dept of Computer Science.
