The Department of Commerce organized an Orientation Programme for the incoming batch of FY B.Com. students on 23rd June in the Seminar Hall I. The programme was aimed at familiarizing the freshers with the institution’s ethos, academic environment, facilities, and support systems.
The event commenced with a warm welcome by the compere, Ms. Samiksha Vengurlekar, who gracefully set the tone for the proceedings. This was followed by a melodious invocation song, creating a serene and spiritual ambience.
To mark the auspicious beginning, the ceremonial lighting of the lamp was performed by the Principal, Vice Principal, all Programme Coordinators, and Heads of Departments (HODs). The event also included the garlanding of the portrait of Shree Damodar, honouring the institution’s guiding spirit.
A Welcome Address was delivered by Dr. Shami Pai, Vice Principal, who warmly greeted the new students and the staff. She highlighted the institution’s commitment to academic excellence, discipline, and overall student development.
This was followed by self-introduction of all teaching and non-teaching faculty members, allowing students to become acquainted with the dedicated team that would support their educational journey.
Further, to help students understand the co-curricular and extracurricular opportunities available, various committee convenors addressed the gathering:
- Director of Physical Education (Sports Director) gave an overview of the sports facilities, intercollegiate events, and encouraged students to participate actively in physical fitness and sports activities.
- The Cultural Council Convenor introduced the diverse cultural activities held throughout the academic year and invited students to explore their talents in music, dance, theatre, and other performing arts.
- The Student Council shared insights into the functioning of the council, the importance of teamwork, and the leadership skills developed through different activities.
- Representatives from the National Cadet Corps (NCC) and National Service Scheme (NSS) gave briefings on the values of discipline, service, and nation-building inculcated through their respective units, and how students can enrol and benefit from these enriching experiences.
- The Librarian or Library Committee Convenor introduced the students to the library’s vast resources, digital facilities, rules, and the importance of cultivating a reading habit.
The session concluded with the Principal, Prof Sanjay Sawant Desai welcoming the students and wishing them all the best for the upcoming year. He also set the tone for the academic year by sharing the acronym of ‘DAMODAR’ which focused on critical aspects such as discipline, attendance, creating a culture of reading etc.
These informative sessions provided students with a comprehensive understanding of the opportunities, support systems, and extracurricular avenues available in the college.
The orientation programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks, leaving the students motivated, informed, and ready to embark on their academic journey with confidence and enthusiasm.
