Guest Lecture on “Skill Development and Employee Productivity”

The Department of Economics & Banking organized a Guest Lecture on “Skill Development and Employee Productivity” for the students of SY B.Com  in the subject of  Economic Survey and Union Budget on 23rd  May 2022 from 09.00 to 10.00 am in offline mode in Class 206. Resource Person for the session was Ms. Melisa D’Costa, Senion Corporate Trainer- Ocwen Financial Pvt. Ltd. Mumbai.

Ms. Melisa D’Costa introduced the students to the concept of Skill Development followed by Skill Training in Industries. She explained the steps involved in Skill training such as Identifying training needs, establishing objectives, selection of suitable training method, conduct and delivery of training and evaluation of performance. She explained the types of skills with several examples. Hard Skills include technical skills, learning a new language, machine operation, any degree or certificate course etc while Soft Skills include People skills, Communication, Leadership, etc.

She guided students regarding how to develop skills. It is important to start with the core skill one wants to learn, break the learning process into steps. It is also essential to learn from experienced people in the field, conduct research, attend training programmes and finally one should take action. She discussed some initiatives taken by Government of India such as Kaushal Vikas Yojna with the students.

She further discussed the impact of skill training on employee productivity. Ms. Anupriya Achari from SY B.Com C was the compere for the session. Ms. Minoshca Dias from SY B.Com C introduced the Chief Guest and  Ms. Alizia Fernandes from SY B.Com C proposed the Vote of Thanks.

50 students attended the Guest Lecture. The programme was Coordinated by Asst. Prof. Lizette D’Costa and Asst. Prof. Poorva Gude, of the Department of Economics & Banking.
