Financial Market Awareness Programme: Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX)

The Post Graduate Department of Commerce in association with Empirical F&M Academy, Mumbai organized a Financial Market Awareness Programme: Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) on 16th February 2024 between 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in Hall 1. The main objective of this session was to provide students with insights into the functioning, importance, and application of commodity derivatives in financial markets. The Resource Person for the session was Mr. Pratyush Bhaskar, SEBI smart trainer, Empirical F&M Academy, Mumbai. The programme began with a warm welcome and an introduction of the Resource Person by Ms. Roshni Khatun of M.Com-II.

Mr. Pratyush commenced the session with a brief introduction of the concept of commodity derivatives and their significance in financial markets. He then explained to the students how to explore the mechanics of commodity trading, including futures and options contracts. He also discussed the role of commodity derivatives in risk management and portfolio diversification, and also provided the students with practical insights through case studies and real-world examples. He further elaborated the role of MCX – Multi Commodity Exchange in the commodity futures market.

This session provided the students with a comprehensive understanding of commodity markets and derivatives trading. The Resource Person made the session interactive by solving various queries of students related to commodity markets and MCX.

The session ended at 1.00 pm with the Vote of Thanks delivered by Ms. Uma Pandit from M.Com-II. The report is contributed by Ms. Aruna Mali from M.Com-I. 53 students of B.Com and M.Com attended the session.
