Damodar Idol 2025 – Annual Singing Competition

The annual ‘Damodar Idol’ singing competition, was organized by the Cultural Council of VVM’s Shree Damodar College of Commerce & Economics, on 25th August 2025, in Hall 1, 5th Floor, Central Block. The event commenced at 9:30 a.m. with a warm welcome address delivered by Ms. Samiksha Vengurlekar Convenor of Cultural Council. The competition was structured into four categories: Hindi Solo, English Solo, Konkani Solo, and Duet performances (Open category), ensuring a wide representation of musical styles. The participants, with their thorough preparation, showcased outstanding performances that maintained a vibrant energy throughout the event. The audience enthusiastically supported their favourite contestants, contributing to an electrifying atmosphere. Adding to the charm of the evening, the special performances by the judges further enhanced the excitement and entertainment. Each performance was evaluated based on criteria such as diction, stage presence, dynamics and rhythm, vocal quality, and harmony. The competition witnessed participation from 30 students (12 males and 18 females) from various departments under different categories.

The esteemed judges for the competition, were Mr. Aniket Daddikar, Ms. Denzilia  Deborah Menezes and Ms. Zia Rodrigues. The compere for the program were Ms. Anushree Shirodkar and Ms. Siya Bhobe. The competition was coordinated under the guidance of Dr. Lizette D’Costa, faculty in charge and member of the Cultural Council. Her dedication and meticulous planning were evident in the seamless organization and smooth execution of the event. All the winners were awarded trophies and cash prizes, and certificates were awarded to all the participants. The trophies and cash prizes for the English category was sponsored by Late Mr. Ravindra H. Duelkar, while that for the Konkani category was sponsored Mr. Jyotendra R. Nayak, both alumni of the College (1977-79 to 1981-82 batch). The event concluded at 1:00 p.m., with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Lizette D’Costa.

The competition highlighted the remarkable talent, enthusiasm, and commitment of participants from different departments. It served as a platform to celebrate musical diversity while nurturing camaraderie and healthy competition among students.
