Cyber Security Workshop

The Computer Science Departement of Shree Damodar College of Commerce & Economics a 4 days Training Program on Cyber Security  from 3rd November to 6th November 2014.  The resource person for the workshop ,Mr. RakshitTandon is theDirector of  A & R Info Security Solutions PVT.  LTD,Besides this he isassociated with various Governmentand  Non-Government Agencies to combat Cybecrime cases. He is a Consultant for Internet and Mobile Association of India,  Advisor to Cyber Crime Unit, Uttar Pradesh Police, Agra,  Advisor – Cyber Crime Cell, Gurgaon, Haryana Police, President- JAT (Joint Action Team) for combating Cyber Crime against Women and Children. Consultant – AIWEFA (All India Women’s Education Fund Association).  Mr. AtulOjha, Security Analyst at A & R Info Security Solutions PVT.  LTD was the trainer along with Mr. Tandon. Eighty students along with the faculty attended this workshop.

 Mr. RakshitTandonhas a wonderful way of connecting to his audience,  his simple and meticulously designedpresentations focused on cyber crimes , threats and how  one could secure themselves from them. He  put forth  facts & figures  relating to the  use of internet . He also shared his experiences on cases of how young students committed crime through internet. He highlighted on the different types of cyber threats the users of the internet and social networking sites are vulnerable to. He emphasized that  cyber defamation, cyber stalking, cyber hacking, fake profile, defamatory posts, sexting, identity hijacking & misusing, bulling on public pages and pornography were very common and the students need to be alert and safe guard themselves from falling prey to such threats. He sensitized  them about the types of Cyber Crimes, Preventive Measures to be taken while surfing the Internet, Information Technology Act and the Remedial Measures that can be taken if one is victimised by the cyber criminals.

Mr. RakshitTandon, presented survey reports disclosing the  dearth of security professionals  in the IT industry.He  moved on to highlight on the careers opportunities in this area as Information Security Analyst,System, Network &  Web Penetration Tester,Information Security forensics expert
Malware Analyst, Computer crime investigationetc.

5.) Clearing Tracks

On Day 2 Mr. AtulOjha& Mr. RakshitTandon practically demonstratedhow Virtual Environment works  andthe benefit of runnning many operating system on a single computer . Topics like creation of backdoor in windows, how to make best use of command prompt, steps to safeguard our computers ,Email Hacking, Cryptography, etc. were being taught.

On Day 3,  the students made aware on how  key loggers were were being misused , counter measures of key loggers. They were familiarized with the dfferent types of viruses i.e funny viruses & dangerous viruses, how to create them & different ways of removing them

On the last day of our workshop focused on ways to attack networks , prevent it from attacks,mobile wifi,foreinsicsi.e.(recovery of data) & reverse  engineering .

This was followed by an interactive sessionand concluded with the distribution of toolkits and certificates to all the participants .

All in all this training program was an eye opener for all the participants making then aware of how vulnerable a person is in this cyber world at the same time gave then the counter measures to secure themselves. Besides it also opened up new   avenues  for the students to take up as careers and venture in .
