Commerce Wars 4.0

The Commerce Club of the Department of Commerce & Management organized Commerce Wars 4.0 from 15th to 27th February 2024. 80 B.Com students were a part of this event.

The following activities were held:

1.  Workshop on E-filing of Income Tax Returns

A workshop on E-filing of Income Tax Returns was held on February 15, 2024, from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm. Attended by 77 participants, the event aimed to enhance understanding of E-filing processes. CA Sneha Menon, a taxation expert, led the session, offering insights into online filing procedures, common errors, and tax-saving strategies. The workshop, inaugurated by the Principal, emphasized practical skill development for future careers. Interactive activities and case studies enriched learning experiences. Ruby Mahato served as the compere, while Prof. Sanjay Dessai delivered the Vote of Thanks. Prof. Sanjay Dessai, Mr. Ainsley Bernard, and Ms. Akshada Gaonkar coordinated the workshop.

2.  Business Plan Competition on the theme “Social Entrepreneurship”

A Business Plan Competition on “Social Entrepreneurship” was held for B.Com students on February 16, 2024. The event aimed to cultivate entrepreneurial skills and innovative thinking among participants. Seven teams presented solutions to social issues like waste management and HIV testing. Judges CA Atindra Bhatikar and Mohsin Shaikh assessed plans based on relevance, practicality, and quality. Interactive sessions allowed students to discuss ideas with judges. The competition fostered critical thinking and practical application of business concepts. Altaz Khan & Kewell Fernandes secured first place, Brionna Noronha & Belisma Barreto came second, and Harsh Kalal & Sai Lolla claimed third. The students will receive cash prizes from the Suhas Mulay Smriti Pratishthan endowment.  Dr.Edwin Barreto, Dr.Lina Sadekar and Ms.Kalpana Parab were the teachers in charge.

3.  Panel discussion titled “Sustainable Development Goals: The Way Forward” 

A panel discussion titled “Sustainable Development Goals: The Way Forward” was held during Commerce Wars 4.0 on February 17, 2024. With 71 students in attendance, the event featured a distinguished panel including Mr. Datta Naik, Mr. Prajal Sakhardande and Mr. Abhijit Sawant, and was moderated by Mr. Alwin Joseph. Student Nandita Borkar introduced the panelists, highlighting their expertise. The discussion, skillfully led by Mr. Joseph, delved into various aspects of SDGs, from poverty and inequality to environmental sustainability. The event, hosted by Ms. Giselle Colaco, concluded with a Vote of Thanks from Asst. Prof. Sheryl Sanches.

4.   Product Design Competition on the theme “Sustainable Invent: Designing for a Sustainable Tomorrow”

A product design competition was organised as a part of Commerce Wars 4.0 on 19th Feb 2024 in the smart classroom. The event aimed at cultivating entrepreneurial skills and innovative thinking among participants. 12 teams displayed their products. The judges Ms. Snehal Jadhav and Ms.Twinkle Fernandes assessed the products based on creativity, sustainability, marketablility, usage and overall impact. The winners of the competition were, First place: Altaz Khan & Kewell Fernandes of TY.B.Com, Second place: Nikita Shirodkar and Teja Gaonkar of SY B.Com and Third place: Shrideep Shetty and Soham Prabhu of FY B.Com.

5.  Bazaar: Mock Trading Competition” 

“Bazaar: Mock Trading Competition” was held as a part of Commerce Wars 4.0 on February 20, 2024. The event aimed to provide practical insights into trading and investment strategies. Seven teams of B.Com. students participated, engaging in two rounds. The first involved an Initial Public Offering (IPO) session, allocating funds for investment decisions. The subsequent round allowed investment across asset classes like debt, equity, and Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs). Mr. Owen Godinho and Mr. Swapnil Wagh secured first place, followed by Mr. Vishal Kubawat and Ms. Brionna Noronha in second, and Mr. Kewell Fernandes and Mr. Altaz Khan in third. The competition proved successful in enriching students’ understanding of trading and investment dynamics. Dr.Maithili Naik was the teacher in charge of the event. Mr.Suyash Patki, FY BBA(FS), Mr.Vedang Bagade, TY B.Com, Mr. Aldric Menezes Gama, TY B.Com and Mr. Dhruv Kadkade, SY BBA(FS) were the student organisers.

6.    Debate on “Can Artificial Intelligence Truly Replace Human Intelligence?”

Debate Competition on “Can Artificial Intelligence Truly Replace Human Intelligence?” was organized on February 21, 2024. It aimed at empowering students with knowledge about AI, seven teams participated. Dr. Shami Pai introduced the event, with Mr. Ramakrishna Reddy and Ms. Twinkle Fernandes as judges. Debaters presented diverse perspectives, evaluated on argument clarity, presentation style, and relevance to the theme. Miss. Ruby Mahato and Miss. Astha Kossambe secured first place, while Mr. Sai Lolla and Mr. Harsh Kalal claimed second. Miss Zakiya Sayed hosted, and Miss. Safaa Sayad delivered the Vote of Thanks, fostering a deeper understanding of AI among participants. Dr. Shami Pai and Mr. Sandesh Gaonkar were the teachers in charge for the event.

7.    Students Seminar cum Research Paper Presentation Competition

A Students Seminar cum Paper Presentation Competition on February 27th, 2024, themed ‘Reshaping Business in the New Global Paradigm.’ was organized. Dr. Shami Pai welcomed judges and participants, with Miss. Safaa Sayed introducing the esteemed panel. Eight teams, guided by faculty members, showcased their insights. The valedictory function saw Abha Naik, Nidhi Kunde, and Shreya Rajeev guided by Dr. Maithili Naik and Ms.Pooja Shanbhag clinching the first place. Shreeyash Dalal, Sai Sashank Lola, and Janvi Dalal guided by Dr. Shami Pai and Ms. Swati Bhat secured second place, while Ruby Mahato, Sakshi Ganguli, and Harsh Kalal guided by Dr. Edwin Barreto and Mr. Sandesh Gaonkar secured third place. Miss. Zakiya Sayed hosted, and Ms. Koel Jana delivered the Vote of Thanks, marking a successful event fostering academic excellence.
