Study Tour to Bangalore

The Department of Computer Science conducted a study tour to Bengaluru- the IT capital of India, from 16th-21st December, 2019. Around 34 students (26 boys & 8 girls) of FY,SY and TY from BCA and B.Voc streams went on the tour, accompanied by faculty members, Ms. Akshada Hegde, Mr. Bhiku Bhave and Ms. Sweta Verenker.

Day 1: Departure to Bengaluru

The journey started on 16th December by the YPR bi-weekly express at 9:30 pm. The group arrived at Yesvantpur Railway Station on 17th December at 12:30 pm.After checking into the hotel and a quick lunch the groupproceeded towards the first workshop at the Skyfi Labs Pvt. Ltd.On arriving at Skyfi Labs, the students were given an insight into career opportunities in the IT Industry and were motivated towards skill development. Next, the students were divided into groups of five and a laptop was provided to each group. Mr Vasanth Vidyakar gave a brief introduction on IOT and its applications in day-to-day life. The students were asked to login to Skyfi Labs official site and were shown IOT projects, robotics, electrical, electronics and certifications provided by Skyfi lab. The website gave the students access to varied information at the end of which they were quizzed to test their understanding.

After completion of the demo the students were provided Arduino kits which consisted of connectors, temperature measuring sensors and Arduino Board. The students were given hands-on experience of programming the sensor. They were awarded certificates on completion of the workshop. The study tour group then retreated to the Hotel for a night stay.

Day 2: Ethical Hacking Workshop at Workden by Triad Square InfoSec Pvt. Ltd.

On 18th December, the group went to Triad Square InfoSec Pvt. Ltd. at Workden, Domlur, for anEthical HackingWorkshop. The workshop was conducted by a trainer Mr. Sai Teja. Students were given a brief insight into Hacking,elements of a hacker, types of hackers, methodologies of hacking, networking concepts, networking protocols, different types offlags and their functionalities and 3-way handshake method.

After a short lunch break at 1 pm, the hands-on session on common hacking methods commenced. The trainer spoke about some techniques of Google docking fordata filtration. Different web applications like SHODAN (Search engine fortracking IOT devices connected to internet), archive.org (To view the archives of awebsite), virustotal.com (Developed by Google; to find domain and sub-domainof any website), exploit-db.com, emkei.cz, crunch etc. were shown to thestudents.Using Linux Kali on virtual box a practical exercise on pingsweepmethod and msfconsole was done by the trainer to give a demo of hacking anymobile or computer system on the same network.

Towards the end of the session,the CEO of the company Mr. Manikant gave the group a brief talk on career guidance. He informed the group about the securityconferences which are to be held in Goa and urged everyone to attend the same.

Day 4: Visit to Wonderla

On 19th December 2019, the students had a visit to Bengaluru’s famous amusement park Wonderla.

Day 5: Visit to Cranes Varsity and IISc Bengaluru, Depart for Goa

On 20th December, the group visited Cranes Varsity which provides training and education in IOT, Embedded,VLSI, DSP and Web technologies. The speaker at Cranes briefed the students on upcoming technologies and growing demands of the IT industry. Healso spoke about life after college and motivated students towards industry grooming.

The study tour group then visited IISc Bengaluru. The group arrived at IISc at 1:30 pm where they were given a presentation on Supercomputers. The presentation was given in batches of 3. It was an interactive session wherein the students got their doubts cleared. They were encouraged by the IISc staff to apply for internships which could involve testing of code.

The tour ended here and the group reached Goa on the following day i.e. 21st December, 2019 at 12:30 pm.
